Not attractive, but works for practice

Its a review about this product

My broadsword was apparently made from a piece of wood with a knot in it. This is near the tip of the blade on the flat edge. The edges of the knot area are slightly rough and sometimes catch on my clothes. There are hollowed-out spots (as all wood knots have) that have been filled and smoothed out with some kind of wood filler which is a lighter color than the rest of the sword. All in all, it feels sturdy and well balanced and will do as a practice sword, but it's not pretty. I think this seller should have to note in the product description that some of these swords contain flaws in the wood.

A must read

The review about this product

As Martin Wolf from Financial Times has written... "A MASTERPIECE"

One of the most interesting things about this books is that it combines a very rigorous research on the topic while keeping it accessible to a large audience. The book is self-contained, with definitions provided along the way, which makes it easy for people with no previous knowledge in economics to enjoy and understand it.

The authors also put together a database without precedents in the area which not only makes their statements much stronger, but also makes a great contribution to the field.

BEST learning method for SERIOUS kanji learners

The review about this product

If you are a serious kanji learner, meaning you want to know all the 2000 standard kanji and not just +- 200 for travelling purposes, you need this book.

Admitted, learning Kanji is a lot of work, but this book sure does help a lot. All the other reviewers summarised the good points of the book, but the one thing I'd like to point out is the fact that in the examples it uses only the kanji the learner already encounterd. This makes it a better book than Kodansha's. True, Kodansha gives a lot more examples for every kanji, but you don't remember a single one of them if they consist of 3 kanji you didn't learn yet. I'd say, teach yourself all 2000 kanji with this book, then go buy Kodansha for the extensive amount of examples they offer.

Cleverly imagined and wonderfully written

Its a review about this product

I thought this was a terrific book. It has intelligence and heart. Four strangers spend two years living on a rebuilt ferryboat in San Francisco Bay, and their four sometimes-interlaced stories are loaded with provocative, entertaining and beautifully written ideas about present day American politics. Funny at times, challenging often, never without merit.

Purple Ferry is smart, fast-paced, relevant, persuasive and completely worthwhile. The first page grabbed me and the short chapters held me. I love a novel that can easily be read in short and charming bursts. It is easy to follow and leaves you thinking about the political choices facing the USA today. I was surprised how much I learned and how upset I became about today's politics. It also made me ponder the choices before each of the four fresh characters at various times in their own intriguing and sometimes interconnected stories.

He was bold to write about a woman's sexual hang-ups and her first sexual experience, but pulled it off with a delicate understanding and sensibility.

A totally original novel. I enjoyed the ride. Can't wait for Sherwood's next book; he has a fan!

Reviews About The Value of Art: Money, Power, Beauty (Hardcover)

Its a review about this product

Michael Findlay has been an art dealer since 1964. In this opinionated book he discusses the value of art in three categories: financial value, social value, and intrinsic value.

Findlay explains that the market value of a work of art is based on five attributes: provenance, condition, authenticity, exposure, and quality. A key message is that art collectors should buy what they like to look at. Any potential increase in market value is speculation.

He explains that the market is cyclical, and people who view art purely as an investment appear when the market is hot. "There is an adage among old hands in the art world that the emergence of art investment funds signals that a boom is over." He points out that more than half of the art market is transacted in private sales. While art funds, art indexes, and art economists claim to analyze the market data, only the auction results are publicly available. "How can one measure and consequently predict activity in a market 52 percent of which is essentially invisible? ... I have little faith in crystal balls disguised as charts."

Findlay points out that auction prices are not a reliable indicator of market value; "an auction result actually represents a unique set of circumstances at a specific point in time." He cites an example of two similar Picasso pieces sold at auction within months of each other. The first sold for close to $6 million, but the second sold for $1 million less. The author speculates that two collectors were bidding in the first auction, but there was only one buyer left in the second auction, so he purchased for close to the reserve price.

"Ideally interest in art starts with a social experience." The author recalls two contrasting experiences. One day he observed a group of uniformed private-school students in a museum. One student was standing in front of a painting, reciting "a litany of biographical facts and art historical clichés" to a group classmates who looked bored out of their minds. In another case he observed a very excited group of eight-year-olds. The teacher was asking them simple questions: "What do you see? What does it look like? What does it make you think of? How does it make you feel? ... The kids were all having great fun competing to express their ideas about the painting... They were completely engaged, fully enthralled... For a properly managed class clustered around a painting or sculpture in a museum, the art can come to life. Reduced to a recitation of facts and other people's opinions, it can die."

In the 1960s, one of the author's clients loaned some art to John Powers, president of Prentice-Hall. After the art was hung in the company cafeteria Powers said, "The effect on morale was great. Overnight I became a convert to the power that art has to move people and bring them together." The author also explains that a corporate art collection can become "a substantial public-relations asset" if it is exhibited and loaned.

Art collectors like to talk about the circumstances of acquiring their art. "When it comes to contemporary art, direct contact with the artist often adds to the price of the work and is of course a social experience with memorable dinner-table conversation value for the buyer."

The intrinsic value of art is about "the private enjoyment of contemplating the work itself." When visiting a museum, the author recommends looking at the art "without wasting time on the labels... Sooner or later something will grab your attention, so stare at it for a good long time, not just five minutes... after twenty minutes things start to happen, and what you thought you knew about the work will start to be replaced by what you are actually seeing."

"If I look at a work of art and it leaves me cold, what can I hear or read about it that will profoundly change my attitude? If I look at a work of art and I am profoundly moved, what can I hear or read about it what matters more?"

"Painting, sculpture, drawing, and other visual media on the highest level represents the creation of a language that is not read or spoken. It is comprehended with the eyes, the mind, and what we might call the heart, our internal capacity to be deeply moved."

Despite A Few Flaws, A Must Read If You're Considering An Online Degree

The review about this product

Online College Secrets: What You Need To Know About Online Degrees Before You Enroll (Kindle Edition) As someone considering an online degree, but unable to go back to school full-time, I needed answers. I'd heard stories about people going to expensive for-profit schools only to find out their degree isn't recognized. This book cleared up a lot of things for me, especially accreditation which I always found very confusing. I feel confident now that I can choose a good school that will be respected by any employer. The book glosses over a few things, and doesn't name any good or bad schools specifically. However, it explains how the online education system works here in the US, and what you need look for in a school.

The Good:
- The writing is short and to the point. The authors know what trips up students and do a good job steering you clear of these issues.
- There are some really valuable tips that may save me thousands of dollars and reduce the number of credits I need to take. That alone was worth the price of the book.

The Bad:
- The author doesn't talk about student loans. I plan to apply for financial aid but it's not clear to me if online colleges are the same as traditional colleges.
- The book is fairly short. Given how many online schools there are, and that one of the authors has a website that reviews schools, I would have expected more information on specific schools.

Despite these small drawbacks, I highly recommend this book. It answered my big questions about online degrees, and it was able to explained things clearly and quickly.

Solid, if unspectacular

The review about this product

Griff and Pete are fellow students and lovers. Griff wants their affair to be a secret, playing the straight game, while Pete wants the opposite. Then, one night, a brutal assault takes place..
Defying gravity has many strengths, among them a levelheaded script and some very restrained acting by Daniel Chilson and Niklaus Lange. It strives to be more than just a [homosexual]teenage movie by keeping the emotions in check, stearing clear of provocative scenes. This is admirable, even if the result often looks like a TV-movie of the week. The danger just isn't there.
Still, all the characters are interesting, even the bad guys. The script holds back enough information to keep you guessing, and the ending is quite acceptable.
Note: The word "[homasexual]" isn't used at all in the script! Other defamatory expressions for [homosexual] people are frequent, though.
There is a scene right after the end-credits which you shouldn't miss. Don't turn off until you get there!

A SEPARATE PEACE

Its a review about this product

A Separate Peace (Paperback) I have my eighth-grade English students read a variety of texts throughout the year. If a student says, "I didn't like it," I have no problem with that (taste is subjective, after all), but I do require them to understand it. Often, people will not "like" something because they don't understand it. If they don't indicate they actually understand the text, then their indifference, dislike or detestation is unfounded. When we discuss a book in class, I find that the students who didn't like the book start to understand it, and, a large majority of them at least, start to like it (to varying degrees). A SEPARATE PEACE is the perfect book to prove this idea.

Part of the problem is giving this book to kids too early in their lives. In elementary school, books are plot heavy; in high school, books are heavy on character. If adolescents don't make a proper adjustment from plot- to character-heavy novels, a book like A SEPARATE PEACE feels like a kick in the gut and a punch in the face at the same time. This immensely character-heavy book is torture for people who aren't mentally acclimated to or ready for such depth.

This is a book that requires contemplation and, perhaps, re-reading. I highly recommend that you find a way to discuss this book with someone else. Questions will arise; debate may ensue; thinking will take place. Why did Gene do what he did? Why and how do we compare ourselves to others? Do we tend to remember events accurately or in the way we wish to remember them? How did Gene and Phinney really feel about each other? Why does Phinney not care about winning? What does Leper's meltdown say about character? About war? About peace? What does the title mean? These are not questions that have easy answers, but reveal character in a way that some students may be uncomfortable with.

I highly recommend this book for those who are ready for it. For others, it will be difficult to get through without feeling bored, lost or angry. Perhaps A SEPARATE PEACE says more about the reader than it does about the characters.

The Christ Controversy

Its a review about this product

[...] Acharya's book is certainly powerful. Having been brought up in a Christian household, I felt angry at the possibility of having
been lied to for so long. This is not a book that can be read nonchalantly by the sincere seeker of the truth. To paraphrase the Old Testament, faith should be subjected to the crucible to elicit gold. The Christians who honestly study this book and finish with their faith totally intact will certainly have my admiration.
Like other reviewers, I have found snippets of information which I disagree with in Acharya's book. What does this leave us
with? A rough diamond, but a diamond nonetheless.
Christianity is unique among the major faiths insofar as it is based upon the soteriological premise of godman making the
ultimate sacrifice for humanity. Buddhism for instance, would be unshaken if the Buddha was proven to be totally mythical, as it
is solely a method of spiritual development. If Jesus however could be proven to be mythical, where does that leave
Christianity?
The bible teaches that we were made in the image of God, the various Gnostic schools (some of which greatly influenced early
Christianity) spoke of us having a divine spark within. Personal empowerment is about recognising our true nature and taking
control of our lives, rather than having someone else make our decisions for us. To effectively take control, it is vital to make informed decisions. May the truth be known to all.

This was a fine book about Pearl Harbor

The review about this product

I don't complain of this story being a sloppy melodrama; I love sloppy melodramas. I don't disapprove the fiction that Admiral Yamamoto leads the Japanese task force himself and sails to Hawaii ; OK, the author just wanted to perk up the story. And I can live with some peculiar things written about Japan and the Japanese; that was predictable. But why does the Pentagon exist in 1941? Why is General Marshall is appointed the chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff before the Pearl Harbor? Why is B-25 tagged as a four-engine bomber? Above all, how dare the author write that of the Dolittle raiders, "all but five would make it back to the United States alive"? (In reality, seven flyers could'nt get back home alive.) And what's the meaning of stating "Of the five flyers who died, two were executed by the Japanese inside Japan itself" (Why ignore the third flyer who was executed?) Won't this negligence scandalize American readers? There are many more inaccuracies, and most of them have nothing to do with "perking up" the story. If the author doesn't care about historical facts, he should write a fantasy story and refrain from preaching the significance of the Pearl Harbor Attack or fact and truth of history. Of all my forty years of reading experience I have never seen a novel that was more crowded with infamous falsehood and distortions.

Great College Bound Gift

Its a review about this product

Moving out on your own for the first time is stressful enough, without having to constantly worry about money. However, as Dara Duguay says in her book, Please Send Money: A Financial Survival Guide for Young Adults on Their Own, money is a huge problem amoung young people. I was surprised to learn how many college students accumulate thousands of dollars in debt, often getting in over their head by using credit cards irresponibly. Although personal finance can be confusing and full of dangers for young people, this book shows readers how to avoid common problems and set up and manage a budget. Duguay teaches about the dangers of credit cards, loans, and how to deal with bankruptcy. Through many real-life stories, she illustrates that financial problems can effect anyone. However, by creating a budget for yourself, learning about loans and credit cards, and overcoming the temptation to spend too much, young people can learn to handle their money responsibly. I would definitely recommend this helpful, easy-to-read book to anyone, especially young people, who want to learn more about personal finance.

First Time buyer of Used book.

The review about this product

Counseling Persons with Communication Disorders and Their Families (Paperback) I am a first time buyer of used books. I was discouraged to buy these books because I was not familiar with what people perceive as used in this country. My wife is an international student and in our country used books are really really used... I was encouraged to try it and I did. Book in excellent condition for school use. I was very surprised by the good quality of the book and am looking forward to make another purchase.

Reviews About Learn to Play Go, Vol. 3: The Dragon Style (Paperback)

The review about this product

This third book in the Learn to Play Go series, which is supposed to bring you to about the 10-12 kyu level, I did not find as useful as the first two books. We're now at the level where you need to learn practical strategy and tactics, and much of the book is a recitation of terms and some illustration of basic principles we already know. The most useful parts were probably the example games, but you really need to study a lot of those to get much out of them.

So, am I a 10-12 kyu player yet? Well, no, but you have to play a lot to gain the experience necessary to make use of the teachings of a book. I would say the first two books in this series are excellent, the third is worthwhile.

Reviews About From Darkness to Light: Teens Write about How They Triumphed over Trouble (Paperback)

Its a review about this product

This book is a wonderful way for clinicians or behavioral health professionals to understand the minds of teenagers. It takes themes like suicide, divorce, bullying, etc and teens who actually experience this. They write their experiences from their own words. It also can be helpful for providers to read the theme topic with the teen to help the teen identify their own experience. THIS HOWEVER, NEEDS TO BE USED WITH AN ADULT IN MY OPINION AS I HAVE CONCERNS THAT IT COULD CAUSE TEENS TO ACCESS NEW IDEAS THAT THEY MIGHT NOT ALREADY HAVE. Please use in appropriate context.

First Interesting Textbook I Ever Read

The review about this product

I ordered this book as a requirement for an introductory paralegal course and was at first a little aprehensive about the books thickness. I started out knowing absolutely nothing about the law, the government, or the internal workings of the legal system. This book teaches the beginnings of modern law and the influences of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. The basics of many common areas of law are also covered such as contracts, probate, property, torts, criminal law, family law, and many more. This book teaches a great amount of useful information in an easy to read and easy to understand format. Plenty of possible real life scenarios are used as examples as well as real cases to help you dive deeper into the subject you are trying to grasp. This is the first school textbook I've ever actually enjoyed reading from. Key terms are boldened for easier reference and studying. For anyone interested in learning about a variety of beginning law topics, it is definately an investment worth making.

Reviews About Witches Of Karres (Paperback)

Its a review about this product

Witches of Karres (Hardcover) This book is one of my all-time favorite space operas. I have read and reread it many, many times, wearing out serveral paperbacks.
The science of the story is unscientific (to put it mildly), but the book is a space opera, not science fiction.
Good versus evil, David versus Goliath; it has all of this, but it has more. Akin to the Xanth novels and the Myth novels it adds the tone of bewilderment. The hero never knows exactly what he is doing.
This draws the reader into closer empathy with Captain Pausert.
The author has demonstrated with his other works that he can write a true science fiction novel, so I feel that the unscientific, but delightful character of this novel was completely intended.
It is really unfortunate it remains in the "out of print", and "hard to find" catagory.
About 25 years ago I had a book dealer find me an original hardback first edition of this book. I treasure it, and frequently reread my well preserved paperback.
I hope these reviews of an unavailable book will encourage publishers to reissue the book before my copies wear out completely.

Reviews About Investing in Your 20s & 30s For Dummies (Kindle Edition)

Its a review about this product

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program (What's this?) I read this to see if the information was basic or if there were good long-term financial planning goals in the book. I think it's a good foundation for young people to use as a guideline when they begin working so they have an idea where they're headed, as well as giving them saving and budgeting advice.

I would also supplement the book with first-hand knowledge of stocks and bonds, as well as historical information about 401Ks. It's important to have a good sold financial plan, whether you use all the advice in the book or not. At least use this book as a guideline, a reference, and a strategy for future success.

I'd recommend young people read this or parents give it to their grown kids as a gift. It's important enough for every young person to read.

Reviews About F**k My Student Loans (Kindle Edition)

Its a review about this product

This book has a few good insights into how to avoid student loans, but they are buried in way too many unnecessary and off subject stories. Lots of rambling and unconnected points. In addition, the first chapter being filled with the f word (and the title of the book) is completely unnecessary and shows that the writer is still immature and has not learned real world lessons. The promise made in the opening paragraph to provide a discussion of why costs are high and what students can do is never really fulfilled.

For a real discussion of how to get through college without student loans, I recommend Debt Free U by Zac Bissonnette. (Debt-Free U: How I Paid for an Outstanding College Education Without Loans, Scholarships, or Mooching off My Parents)

So far the cloud is more like flatulence...It won't sync with ANY of my accounts...Quicken's website claims that it is a "known issue"...KOWN ISSUE???? REALLY????? NO KIDDING!!!! So Intuit would rather release some more shovelware on schedule rather than actually worry about whether or not it works....PATHETIC!!!!! I AM SO FURIOUS RIGHT NOW... Ben Tells it like it is, Beware of the College Campus

Its a review about this product

I read Ben's book with "shock and awe". I have been familiar with Mr. Shapiros's writings for the UCLA Daily Bruin, and have heard him speak on a few occasions .He is a real hero, because he talked about this stuff happening on the campus before it was fashionable, and he stood up to the UCLA authority, went on local radio and told what happened when he tried to report on AL Talib, a MSA newspaper, being funded by taxpayer dollars, and what their political agenda was. All this prior to 9/11. He is a young man, who should be watched, and looked at as a future leader of our country, Ben is the Best, a great read!

Reviews About Good Credit Is Sexy (Paperback)

The review about this product

I purchased this book back in 2005. I was experiencing issues with a big company that thought they could apply negative information on my credit and get away with it. With the help of this book, I fooled them. Using this book to do my due diligence I was able to find out that the company had violated my rights as a consumer. This book has great information that come directly from the Federal Trade Commission (ftc) along with countless letters you can send to any creditors that may be causing you debt nightmares.

To make a long story short, using this book I found out that the company had violated five of my rights as a consumer each carrying a $5,000 government penalty. I had my "LegalShield" formerly Pre-Paid Legal attorney send the company a letter on my behalf stating their violations. In the letter, my attorney demanded that all debt that I actually owed was erased or they would advise further legal action due to the penalties. The company complied, removed the debt on my credit history and sent me a bill stating I had a zero balance.

Don't accept negative information on your credit report without putting up a fight, never back down, protect your credit at all cost. This book is certainly worth it. because this books Rocks!

Reviews About 21 (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD)

The review about this product

21 (Amazon Instant Video) If your expecting a movie about the book 'Bringing Down the House' you will not be happy about your rental/purchase. I didn't believe the poor reviews at first and so I rented it...I wish I had listened.

The story is narrated by our main character throughout the film and it is horrible to listen to for both content and the annoyance of his voice.

They really Hollywooded up the plot, with all the predictable twists and happy-ending everything-is-ok-in-the-end and we-have-learned-our-lesson bull-s...There was just nothing at all that stood out about this movie. They could have replaced BlackJack with any other activity, like skydiving, tennis, or working at a McDonalds and they could have reused much of the script and the plot lines. The second star is because I didn't shut it off part way through.

Wait until this one makes it to HBO.

Reviews About The Complete Idiot's Guide to Personal Bankruptcy (Paperback)

Its a review about this product

In the next edition disclose these four significant student loan debtor discharge success cases (I am sure there are many more):

1. Michael Eric HEDLUND v. The Educational Resources Institute Inc. et al., case number 12-35258, in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (May 22, 2013);

2. In re Robert Jacob SCOTT and Sarah Jane Scott, Debtors. Robert Jacob Scott and Sarah Jane Scott, Plaintiffs v. U.S. Department of Education; Educap, Inc., The Education Resources Institute (TERI), et. al, Defendants. Bankruptcy No. 07-14317. Adversary No. 07-01367. United States Bankruptcy Court, W.D. Washington, at Seattle. September 25, 2009;

3. Christian D. MENDOZA, Chapter 7, Debtor. Christian D. Mendoza, Plaintiff,
Educational Credit Management Corporation; Hemar Insurance Corporation of America, Defendants. Case No.-01-53238-MM. Adversary No. 01-5283. United States Bankruptcy Court, N.D. California. June 20, 2007; and

4. In re Lorna Kaye NYS, Debtor, Educational Credit Management Corporation, Appellant, v. Lorna Kaye Nys, Appellee. No. 04-16007. United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. Argued and Submitted February 15, 2006. Filed April 26, 2006. 446 F.3d 938.

The Hedlund 2013 case is huge, it clearly expands the law in favor of student loan debtors who reside in the nine western states. Both Hedlund and Scott were in their 30s, healthy and employed and they successfully discharged most of their student loan debt in bankruptcy.

A Brilliant Counter To Fundamentalism

Its a review about this product

The times we live in show a resurrection of great theological debate. Biblical scholarship, with the help of the discovery of ancient texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls has revealed the great diversity of thought that made up Christianity in the first three centuries after the death of Jesus.

It wasn't until the fourth century and the adoption of Christianity as the state religion of Rome that Christianity went through a period of codification and setting of official dogma. Fundamentalist Christianity today continues the traditions and dogma put in place by politicians and church elders of the fourth and fifth centuries. Beliefs of a different age, and a society much different than our own.

It was then that beliefs became law, for there was no division between church and state...indeed, a heretic in those times was guilty of not only treason against God, but against the state. In this book by John Shelby Spong, he exposes how the Bible has been used to suppress the opposers of the state and its religion.

He tells how the Bible has been used to keep women as second-class citizens, how scripture has been used to justify cruelty and tyranny. His words are the words of a man that has studies the Bible all of his life, given his life to working for God and the followers of Jesus. While many will not agree with him, there is no doubting his scholarship and dedication to Christianity.

It has been said that the days of the prophets are gone. I disagree. John Shelby Spong, Marcus Borg and others are speaking out against the iniquities of ancient biblical thought that continue to be practiced. We need people like them to speak out. There are many that wish to maintain the old thoughts about God and keep people in fear. For those, this book will be a revulsion. For others that look for a different way, this book could be a revelation.

The review about this product

When this series was first bradcast on our PBS TV staion WGBH Boston, I taped the series off air. Then, I discovered I recorded the third episode twice & missed the second completely. When I saw the set for sale in the WGBH catalog, I ordered it & finally, got to see the second episode! This is a video set I watch over & over again. I do this before I loan it to friends, just so I can keep the plots of the episodes "straght" in my mind. When these series are broadcast, Russell Baker gives an opening & closing commentary on the episode. These are missing from the commercial versions. Without this commentary, the viewe may not know that the female lead Jemma Redgrave is related to Lyn Redgrave & Venessa Redgrave - They are Jemms's aunts.

I am a student of history, especially medical & nursing history. This series gives me lots of insight into treatments that worked & didn't work in that era. The actor Robert Hardy, who played Sigfried Farnan in "All Creatures Great & Small" plays a devious "Sir Herbert", one of the surgical professors at the East London Hospital. He only appears in a small number of the episdes. But, he is a prominent character in the first episode. I got the impression Elanor Bramwell would have liked to kill Sir Herbert in that first episode, but when Lady Cora Petersgave Elanor the opportunity to serve the sick & poor in another setting, Elanor no longer had to deal with Sir Herbert.

Reviews About After the Arab Spring: How Islamists Hijacked The Middle East Revolts (Hardcover)

Its a review about this product

It is quite remarkable that in a situation where all the indicators pointed to failure, the majority of american media (along with cooperation from an idealistic US administration) attempted to portray these Middle East uprisings as positive moves toward the establishment of western style democracy. In fact, the history of civilization is packed with examples of societies that rise and fall on the strength of all types different political, religious, and economic ideals. Even European democracy gave rise to Nazi chaos less than a century ago. This book makes it clear that American democratic ideals are not the norm and are definitely not the reflex evolutionary trend out of barbarism.

Reviews About Hamlet (DVD)

The review about this product

Hamlet - The Film starring Will Houston (DVD) This is a quite competent, traditional 20th C. interpretation of the play with a cast of trained pros (a serious student of Shakespeare shouldn't care that they aren't movie stars or Doctor Whos).

It was staged for film: that's a good thing, as it isn't simply a part-film/part-stage production like many higher-profile Hamlets. A few nice outdoor scenes add verve. Houston is deeply invested as H. without overplaying it; in fact, with the perhaps inevitable exception of Laertes, there's very little scene-chewing, yet the film never feels leaden (considerable cuts help with that, of course, and I am usually into uncut work but on film it's hard to avoid). Gertrude and Claudius are steady forces of authority and the former gets the bedroom scene exactly to my taste; it's emotionally raw, but there's no showoffy sexing-up here (which means it could be played for a classroom of younger students). Polonius is not played for extreme laughs as many players since Cronyn have done; really, this may be the most "experimental" thing about the production in this day and age.

P.S. To the previous reviewer: the costumes were on loan from the RSC. Check the credits. One early establishing shot may have been of a Ren Faire or living history museum, but even if so, that is hardly an unwise use of their obviously small budget.

The review about this product

This is a college book, so there was no choice in buying it, and if my experience changes over the next semester, I'll edit/add to it.

a) the book is dry and gives simple instructions, while making the exercises much more complex. It would be a better book if the difference between the two was less distant.

b) the website it advertises is HORRIBLE. It's clear that the book was once under HOUGHTEN umbrella of products, but it is no longer. The website that the book is tied to looks like it was created by a 12 year old.
